5 Tips to save $ on International Roaming Rates on your cell phone

Staying in touch with work, friends and family when you are on vacation can cost you a small fortune.  Roaming charges will end up on your cell phone bill and you should try to avoid these ridiculous charges.

Here are some tips that may help you keep your roaming costs down.

1. Do NOT Stream
If you are in a different country, don't stream movies or music.  This will be a very costly procedure.  Plan ahead of time and stream what you need for your trip before you leave home.

2. Travel Apps
Travel Apps are great, however most apps need a data connection to work properly or to work at all.  Ensure you have wifi where you are at and turn your cell access off.

3. Use WiFi when ever possible
Using WiFi can help you sync your emails, update apps and allow you to download without costing your a fortune.  Many resorts and hotels now have free WiFi for their guests.

4. Turn off Data Roaming
Before you depart for your vacation, you should turn off Data Roaming.  If you forget, your phone will update all your apps, emails, and social accounts when it connects to a network when you land.  You should adjust your settings to ensure that automatic updates are disabled.

5. Monitor your usage
On most cell phones you can set a data limit.  This will help you ensure that you don't go over the amount that you are prepared to pay for.  Talk to your provider for details.
